My Parents Dreams
My Parents Dreams
by Bonnie (Rivas) Johnson copyright 1999
My father dreamed an artists life,
Creations of his mind and soul,
All he felt would make him whole.
My mother did not know my father’s dreams.
My mother dreamed of fortune,
Far away from poverty and strife,
A life of leisure as a rich man’s wife.
My father did not know my mother’s dreams.
Dreams were lost forgotten as,
Children came along. They tried,
Bills took over, at three Lydia died.
Sadness and pain buried my parents dreams.
My father grew old in his steelworkers life,
My mother grew bitter as a poor man’s wife.
Neither cared about the other’s dreams.
My father dreams an artists life,
Creations of his mind and soul,
My mother dreams a richer life,
All the things to make her whole,
The do not know each others dreams.
